Teacher Appreciation Week

A special thank you goes to all of the Howard parents who helped make Teacher Appreciation Week such a successful event.  Also, thank you to all of the local businesses and parents who donated gifts for the raffle during the teacher luncheon.  Donations were given by Border’s Books, Westborn Fruit Market, Dream Dinners, La Cantina Market, Pizza Pappalis, Mongolian Barbecue, Double Olive, Blockbuster Video, Rio Wraps, Barbeque Pit, Cottage Inn Pizza, and The Detroit Lions (by Kim Doverspike).

“Summer Quest” Summer Workbooks

You will have the opportunity to purchase summer educational materials for your child that contain hundreds of curriculum-based activities in language arts, reading, writing and math.  A flyer will be sent home with each child in June with more details.  You may order the materials online at www.innisbrook.com or call 1-877-525-5608.  A percentage (15%) of each book purchased will be donated back to the school.  Please consider purchasing a summer workbook from “Summer Quest” to keep your child learning over the summer.

A Note from the Principal

I just wanted to thank each of you for this school year.  I have had the opportunity to learn so much about people.  I have enjoyed working with each parent, the PTA Board, students and staff members.  I look forward to seeing many of you aver the summer months.  Have a great summer with your children!!

Study Island Reminder

The Dearborn Public Schools has purchased a subscription to Study Island for each elementary aged child throughout the district.  This is a web-based program that covers all of the Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCEs) that are tested on the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP).  Each child has been assigned a Username and Password.  Go to www.studyisland.com so you can access this for your child.  It would be a great tool for each child to use over the summer to sharpen both math and reading skills.  Contact the office or your child’s teacher at 827-6350 if you have any questions.  If you have troubles over the summer, you may contact Study Island directly at (800) 419-3191.

Environmental Study Area Workday

On Thursday, May 22, a number of adult volunteers from Ford Motor Company assisted in working in the Environmental Study Area.  In addition to these volunteers, a number of Howard School parents also helped with this project.  I would like to thank both George Rinke and Dan Ballnik for helping organize this event and for purchasing plants.  Other parents who helped were Stanley Golembiewski and Amy Roman.

Gleaner’s Food Drive

The students of Howard School donated 537 pounds of food for our most recent food drive.  Thank you for supporting people in our community.
