Dear Parents,                                                                                                                                                                                                                      April 3, 2017

This spring, students will be taking the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-Step). The testing window for administering these tests begins Monday, April 10.  This year, students will be taking these tests online as opposed to the traditional paper and pencil method.   Howard 5th grade students will start testing on Tuesday, April 11. Please see the calendar listing bellow for more testing dates.  Additional information regarding testing including the schedule for the 3rd and 4th grade (testing in May) will be sent home/posted the week of April 10.

Please review the following test-taking tips with your child:

Before the test:

  • Help your child develop a positive attitude about the test with positive discussions before the test.
  • Keep them focused on striving for their best, but remaining confident in their ability to give their best effort.
  • Ensure your child gets a plenty of sleep the night before the test, but also make sure your child is on time so you are not rushing to school just in time for testing.
  • A healthy breakfast will help your child remain focused during the test.

During the test remind your child to:

  • Listen carefully to directions given by the teacher.
  • Ask questions if you don’t understand what to do.
  • Read each question carefully. Find the keywords to help you determine what the question is really asking.
  • Read the entire question and look at all answer choices to ensure you are making the best selection.
  • Use the strategies used in class to find the answer.
  • Relax and give your best effort!  I am confident that our Howard Dragons will rise to the challenge!
