Howard Learning Community, 5/16/17
Howard Elementary will hold two informational meetings to present information regarding PA 306 signed into law this year. The law essentially states that students who are not reading at grade level by third grade will be retained. The first cohort for this law are our current (2016/17) kindergarten students.
Even though this primarily effects only our current kindergarten families at this time, we are inviting everyone in our learning community to attend. We will discuss the details of the law, how it impacts our schools and the initiatives that we will put in place to ensure that we are ahead of this issue including what parents can do to partner with us to ensure all students are meeting and exceeding the new state requirements.
- The first meeting will be at 3:00 on Wednesday, May 24
- The second meeting will be at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 24
- Each meeting will last approximately 30-45 minutes.
We will hold monthly parent meetings starting in September, 2017 as part of our “Read at Home” initiative and action plan.
