Hello Howard Community!
As part of the District and the School’s continuous efforts for school improvement, each of the Dearborn Schools participates in two unannounced SIP (School Improvement) visits every year. Yesterday, Thursday, October 4, Howard participated in our first surprise visit for this school year and I am proud to report that the team described their overall visit to our school as very positive.
The team considers nine indicators on a four point rubric. These indicators include:
Content and Language Objectives
High Expectations/questioning Techniques
Checking for Understanding/formative Assessment
My Learning Plan
In past years, parents were able to participate in these visits because they were announced. In order to make the visits more authentic, the model now follows an unannounced/unplanned visit which has made it more challenging to schedule parents to the visits. In an effort to address this challenge, the District is looking for parent volunteers to participate in these visits and have flexibility to arrive at the schools on a shorter notice.
If you would like to participate in the school improvement walkthrough with the district administrative team, please fill out this form. The district will contact you the day of the visit and you will receive a reminder call 45 minutes prior to the start of the visit.
For more information on the SIP process, please go to the SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT tab on the District SIP blog linked below. Parent feedback is valuable to us and we hope that some of you will be able to participate in this positive process for our continual improvement.
