Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not. Dr. Seuss
Thank you so much to this great community for coming together in order to work to ensure the safety of students. There is nothing more difficult in life than change. It takes time for the kinks to be worked out before things run smoothly, but when its for the safety of our students, we can all agree that it is worth it. We met with our School Resource Officer after arrival and are going to improve communication at the corners to help and avoid the few back ups that happened this morning. Aside from these small hiccups, it was comforting to see that students were not running across a car jammed street outside of the crosswalks or between cars and were instead being dropped off right onto the safe sidewalks. As mentioned before, we will keep working to get it right but I would have felt like I was letting the students down by not trying anything at all.
Some tips on helping to improve arrivals:
- Leave the house a little early so that we are not all rushing to arrive at the same time
- Consider dropping students off between 8:10 and 8:25 so they can enjoy a free breakfast in the warm cafeteria with friends where they will remain in the building until its time to line up
As stated earlier, we have started a preliminary plan to start moving things in the right direction and in addition to safety, address the many complaints that come to the office regarding this issue. If you have any additional suggestions that we have not thought of, we welcome and encourage you to contact us through the blog and email.
