School Zone Safety

Hello Howard Community,

As parents and guardians, the safety of all children is paramount.  I don’t mean to sound grim, however; driving, especially in a school zone, is a heavy responsibility.  In order to protect all of  the students at our school and in our community please refer to the School Zone Safety Guidelines shared by the District, Dearborn Police Department, and City of Dearborn.

If we all work together, we can ensure that all of our students get to school and home safely each day.  A little patience goes a long way.  So far, it has taken about 10 minutes for the bulk of the traffic to clear the school streets.  Ten minutes is not a lot of time when weighted against the safety of our students so please, practice patience and abide by the safety guidelines.

***I urge you to be especially mindful of tiny people popping out from between parked cars and buses and ensure that you direct your children to walk to the corners and be crossed by the cross guards.

Second Grade Parent Night

We had a solid turnout for the second grade parent night! Parents and teachers got together to share important information and expectations for a successful school year! These meetings are part of an effort to increase opportunities for communication between the school and our families. Specials area teachers stopped in to say hello and share information as well. Way to go Dragons!

We would love to see and get to know you all better!

Welcome Back!

Hello Dragons!

I am so excited to be starting this school year with all of you as we begin the journey of the 2108/2019 school year. Your teachers and the custodial staff have been working diligently to ensure your classrooms and the school are ready for you.

I hope that you have all had an amazing summer full of joyous summer times with your families.  Amongst all the fun, I also hope that you had time to fit in some reading 😊.

Now that summer is ending, don’t be sad because the fun will continue in school.  We are going to have a great school year!  Your parents, teachers, and myself are all ready to work together with positive energy to support your learning achievement and make sure we have several great activities to engage you in the school experience!

This week teachers have been participating in professional learning regarding your new Math curriculum and attending meetings with Dr. Maleyko our distinguished Superintendent as he discussed the progress of our district as well as listening to several guest speakers to get us ready for the school year!

So what you are probably wondering and what you really really want to know is who your teachers are going to be!!! The class lists will be posted on the main doors on

Friday, August 24, 2018 after 4p.m.

I have met all of your teachers over the summer and have learned how lucky we are at Howard to have an amazing teacher in every class in our school! Now, I can’t wait to meet all of you because as the school year starts, I am confident that I will learn that what makes Howard truly special is the equally amazing students and families that are a part of our school.

We can’t wait to see you on Monday, August 27, 2018!  Remember Monday is a half day!  Enjoy the weekend!

The Little Mermaid

The Dearborn Youth Theater with direction by Mr. Rashid Baydoun and music direction by Ms. Vanessa El-Zein put on another amazing production this summer with one of my all time favorites, The Little Mermaid. The amount of talent showcased by our youth never ceases to amaze me! An added bonus at this year’s show was I had the chance to meet more of our Dragons!

Great Homecoming!

Thank you to the parents and students that stopped by the Homecoming to say hello. It was my pleasure to meet you. Howard collected quite a few entries into the book raffle so hopefully we will be home to the lucky class. We will find out after the drawing in September!

Mrs. Lazar

Principal’s Introduction

Dear Howard Family,

It is with tremendous pride and enthusiasm that I write this letter of introduction as the newly appointed principal at Howard Elementary.  My name is Linda Lazar and I have served the Dearborn Public Schools since 2005.  I began my career teaching 5th grade at Becker Elementary.  After five years at Becker, I accepted the Title I resource position at Henry Ford Elementary.  In my six years at Henry Ford, I worked with grades Kindergarten through 5th providing intervention to students, working alongside teachers to shape instruction, and serving on the school leadership team.  I then served as the Assistant Principal at McCollough Unis for the past two years.

I have lived the majority of my life in Dearborn and I am a Fordson Graduate.  I earned my Business Administration and Education degrees from the University of Michigan – Dearborn, my Masters in Education from Wayne State, and am currently pursuing my Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership through the University of Michigan – Dearborn.  I have been married for seven years and my husband and I are the proud parents of a five-year old daughter.  We still reside in and love the Dearborn community.  I grew up with a love for school that I hope to instill in all of our students.

My journey with the Dearborn Schools has been a rewarding one in many ways and cultivating life-long relationships with students, staff, and families has been the most rewarding part of it all.  Continuing to build and expand these relationships with the Howard family is something that I am sincerely looking forward to.  I believe a school is a place where everyone should feel valued and respected and that as a team, we all can contribute so much to ensure that Howard can continue on its path of success.  Through collaboration and continuous improvement, I hope to ensure that our students find success and become life-long learners with a love for school.

Parents, students, staff, and administration all play an important role in the life and education of a child and Howard has been a model in this collective community effort which has resulted in allowing Howard School to uphold a rich tradition of academic and cultural excellence.  I am confident we can continue and expand these traditions in the future.

I look forward to meeting and working with all of you this school year!  Enjoy the remaining time of the summer and I look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday, August 27, 2018.

Best Regards,

Linda Lazar
