Howard Elementary School

Dismissal Procedures for Tuesday, January 29

Due to the extreme cold and windchill that will be setting in this afternoon, we will be adjusting our dismissal for the safety and warmth of students and staff.  Our student valet system will make this easy to do and with your cooperation, things will run smoothly.  Thank you for your assistance ahead of time and thank you to the Howard staff and parent volunteers for making it easy to successfully coordinate efforts that require a lot of support to work:

Your dismissal driving route will remain the same, just keep in mind the following:

  • Please make sure you have your student valet sign where it is easy for staff to see

  • Staff will be stationed at the student drop off (where the old bus lane used to be/in front of the flagpole) they will radio in your child’s name and your child will then be sent out from the door closest to the flagpole.

  • Students who exit on Lawrence will still exit on Lawrence, please just make sure if you pick up on this north side of the school that you have your sign displayed visibly.  If you have misplaced your sign, you can write your child’s name in large print on a piece of paper.

  • You will not see the students outside – Students will wait inside until their name is called

  • Please remain in your car

*****This means that traffic might move a little bit slower this afternoon.  Please BE PATIENT, we want to ensure that the students stay safe and warm and this is the most efficient way to do so.

Several parents have been calling in inquiring about school tomorrow.  Please remember this is a District wide decision.  For information on school closings, please check the District website at dearbornschools.org
