Unity Run Supports Anti-Bullying Efforts
On the field or in the classroom, crosstown rivals Edsel Ford, Dearborn, and Fordson are no strangers to fierce competition, but longtime rivals will stand together on May 3, 2014 as the three Dearborn high schools host a 5K “Boot Camp” Unity Run.
The event is sponsored by the Anti-Bullying and Peer Mediation teams at Dearborn, Edsel Ford, and Fordson. The fun begins 9:00 am at Ford Field Park in Dearborn, located one block north of Michigan Avenue at Morley and Monroe.
The theme of this year’s Unity Run is “Boot Camp”. Participants will have the option of running a traditional cross country course or challenging themselves by navigating a series of mini obstacles set up along the course. The schedule is as follows:
- 9:00 am– 1 mile run (elementary age students)
- 9:30 am– 2 mile run (middle school age students)
- 10:00 am– 1 mile walk (all are welcome)
- 11:00 am– 5K run (adults)
- 11:30 am– 5K run (high school age students)
This race is open to students, staff and family members of Dearborn Public Schools and community members interested in supporting the work of the high schools students. Registration fee is $15 for students, $20 for staff/adults, and $40 for teams of four (each person on a team must complete a registration form and submit together.)
Proceeds will fund the annual Student Leadership Diversity Summit and a scholarship for a student(s) involved in anti-bullying, mediation, and/or social justice.
The high schools would like to thank Unity Run sponsors: Hype Athletics, La Pita-Dearborn, Dearborn Education Foundation, Tubbys, Lebanese American Heritage Club, and Pride Ink for their support of the event. A special thanks to the Dearborn Running Club for assisting with the planning and set-up of the course.

The Dearborn Public Schools will not need to make up any missed days as a result of inclement weather.
District administrators reviewed current state regulations for meeting the minimum required number of days and hours of instruction set by the State of Michigan. After verifying with state and county officials, the District was able to determine the current 2013-14 calendar will still provide the required number of instructional days.
The state allows district’s to miss six days due to weather conditions. So far, Dearborn Public Schools have had to close on seven different occasions related to snow and cold. The district has enough time and days in the calendar to cover the one extra day.
If there are any additional school closures, hopefully they will occur after April 1. Any weather related school cancellations after April 1 do not require make up days as defined by the State of Michigan.
